The old folk song, "Flash Company," dates back to 1850 in Limerick, Ireland, and it talks about the perils of spending one's time with folks who love the fast life of music, dance and drink. If you'd like to spend some time in that world, please join the boys from Flash Company as they bring their particular brand of Celtic music to the Towne Crier stage.
Hudson Valley singer/songwriters Eric Garrison and Jim Pospisil have known each other for many years, but it was only three years ago during a chance conversation that they discovered a mutual love of Irish music. Further discussion revealed that both were most interested in bringing that music to Hudson Valley stages and recreating the kind of atmosphere that Eric had encountered on visits to pubs in rural Ireland. They initially explored this idea as a duo, between them playing mandolin, bozouki, whistle, bodhran, tenor banjo and melodica. Soon, it was obvious to both that more fun would be had with a bigger band, so bass player John Allers and guitarist/vocalist Bryan Maloney came on board to fatten up the band's sound and help keep audiences' toes tapping.
Since 2015, Flash Company has been delighting area audiences with their mix of the traditional and modern in Celtic music, presenting both instrumental and vocal tunes with long histories, and modern songs penned by today's generation of Irish, Scottish and English songwriters. In the mix, as well, you'll find a handful of original tunes written in traditional settings. All of this comes with a healthy dose of what the Irish call "the craic" - that quality that's guaranteed to put a smile on your face, a spring in your step and a tune in your heart!
